I am directed in reply to your letter of 5th instant on the subject of street watering to state that His Excellency the Governor is very anxious to meet the wishes of the Memorialists and that in consideration of the probable benefit and eventual saving derived from the increased durability of the roads, His Excellency will be prepared to advance, from the rate on House property, a sum not exceeding $3,1570 in aid of any subscription of equal amount raised by the Community at large for the purposes mentioned by the Memorialists.
